Reciprocal Trade
Reciprocal Trade is a modern interpretation of the principles in the 1934 Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (RTAA), adapted for the contemporary coffee industry. It encapsulates a trade framework where both buyers and suppliers, such as coffee companies and local farmers, mutually benefit from the trade relationship.
Under Reciprocal Trade, coffee farmers receive fair compensation and may also be offered equity in the purchasing company, creating a joint ownership structure. This model promotes equitable benefits and shared prosperity by ensuring that both the coffee brand and the growers have a vested interest in the business’s success.
Furthermore, it involves reinvesting a portion of the profits back into the farming communities, thus contributing to sustainable development and economic growth. Reciprocal Trade also encompasses sustainable farming practices and encourages transparent, accountable trade agreements that help build trust and long-term partnerships.
The intent is to create a sustainable economic model that not only pays farmers fairly but also engages them as partners in trade, fostering community development, environmental preservation, and economic resilience. This is currently an aspirational goal while we search for or initial farms.
